The Low Down And Benefits Of Facial Massaging

Prioritizing sleep and rest is an essential part of our self-care routine. Still, in our busy modern-day lifestyles, it’s only natural to feel tired from time to time. However, stress and lack of sleep reflect in the condition of our skin, creating a dull and tired appearance.

Thankfully, facial massages are a quick and easy way to rejuvenate our skin and brighten our complexion. Plus, regular face massages can help reduce the aging process, keeping you looking young and fresh. Let’s explore more.

BENEFITS of Facial Massage

Facial massages improve the skin’s overall condition as they promote blood circulation. Still, you can expect many other benefits from regular facial massages.

  • Reduces the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines

  • Reduces the appearance of acne

  • Gives brighter, more glowing skin

  • Relieves sinus pressure

  • Helps heal scar tissue

  • Promotes relaxation and reduces stress

Types of Facial Massage

There are various types of facial massages available. Some you can learn and do at home, whereas others are best to receive from a trained professional. Moreover, some feature massage tools while others just involve using your fingers. Here are three popular types of facial massage we recommend.

Gua Sha

Gua sha is a traditional Chinese healing method and facial massage. It uses a smooth-edged tool (usually a quartz stone or a jade roller) to gently scrape and rub the skin.

The method is used in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). It is said to relax muscles and increase the flow of chi (life force energy). Rubbing the skin in an upward motion breaks up any areas of stagnated energy, such as inflammation. This helps reduce pain and swelling and promotes healing and tissue drainage.

While Gua Sha is most commonly used on the face, the technique can be used on the body wherever there is a muscle knot or chi stagnation.

Shiatsu

Shiatsu is a Japanese massage technique that uses pressure from the fingers (and sometimes the palm) to stimulate particular meridian points on the face and neck. Shiatsu is a Japanese word that means “finger pressure,” and the technique involves creating slow small circles.

Shiatsu can also include light tapping that helps to further promote blood flow and collagen production. You can learn the method and perform this style of facial massage on yourself.

Acupressure

An acupressure facial massage consists of pressing particular pressure points on the face and massaging back and forth with one or two fingers. Each pressure point has a unique healing benefit and is associated with a particular organ or part of the body.

Acupressure facial massage can help with various health concerns, from congestion to headaches to fever. Although you can learn the facial acupressure points yourself, if you want to heal a particular ailment, it’s best to go to an acupuncturist or massage therapist. You should spend at least 2 minutes per pressure point for maximum benefits.

How often should you have a facial massage?

According to skin care experts, you should do a facial massage 2 to 3 times a week. However, it’s beneficial to gently massage your face for 5 to 10 minutes each day. Therefore, if you’re looking for a new self-care practice, why not grab your favorite oil and add a nourishing and relaxing face massage to your evening ritual?
